Success Redefined
Sadly, “spork” wrote a response that was longer than my post in the entry 2 items down.. I like it! I like reading what you guys think about all this!
See what I see as a bit of an issue is the definition of success spilling over and becoming a definition of being happy. You don't need money, love, or anything to be happy. It is a state of mind. You could be a heroine addict and be extremely happy. But is that successful? Does success have to be a good thing? If I succeed in my goal to kill a person, I have successfully accomplished my mission. Success! Not a good thing, but you did what you set your mind to.
Maybe that is the definition of success: to set ambitious goals and meet them. I personally wouldn’t consider myself a successful person if I set a goal to wash the dishes and then did them. Wow, talk about Mission: Impossible, huh? True, that is success, but not in the sense that we are trying to define. Financial goals can be a form of success, and they aren't necessarily shallow if one understands the role of money in life and how much (or how little) emphasis needs to be placed on it.
When we look at others around us and say “she was successful, he was not,” how are we defining success? We don’t initially take into account how happy they are with life. We look at what they have accomplished, what ambitions they have, and how passionate they are about what they do.
What do you guys think?

I think it is as simple as that - success being the attaining of a particular goal. Where we have difficulty believing that a dish washer (or whatever) can be regarded as successful if that's what he or she wanted to do - well that's because we're imposing our own personal idea of what success is, on that person.
In today's society, especially in the US, more so in Los Angeles, success is primarily viewed upon in the financial and materialist form. You see a guy with a Ferrari with a beautiful girl, both dressed PIMP, and everyone and their MOMs are looking. Why? Because people automatically assume that if he has the Ferrari, he probably has everything else.
No one gives a fuck if your the best/fastest "dish washer" or whatever in the world. But if that makes you happy. That's great. I PERSONALLY, will never give a shit. lol.
This is the last time I'm going to leave a comment regarding success on Arthur's blog unless he writes something about success that I am completely against.
My opinion...
MAKE MONEY. MAKE A LOT OF MONEY. AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. If you haven’t figured it out yet... money=power in this world. BUTTTTT... make sure you have all the things that money CAN NOT buy first.
Things that money CAN NOT buy: LOVE, REAL FRIENDS, HEALTH. I'm sure there are more. Those are the main ones I can think of at 2 AM.
Ok, I've been commenting way too much on Chaparyan's blog. lol.
I'm just looking forward to going sky-diving damn it!
YOUR SHORT FRIEND... SEVAN. :)
If your goal in life is to be successful, you wont be!

That HAS TO BE the most RETARDED thing I've read in my LIFE! You won't get ANYWHERE in life without setting goals for yourself. Please don't identify yourself. (for your own good).
you actually can buy health. If you are really sick, and can only get better by surgery or very expensive medication... and you have the means to do so, you go for it. You have just saved your own life and are now healthier. whereas you do not have money, you avoid going to the doctor, and torture yourself until your inevitable end.. back to my point, you can't bake bread without the dough. To ensure your health, you must be able to afford going to the doctor, paying for the medication etc. so you can cross health off of your "money can not buy" list. Other things would be respect from others and for others, Happiness, and self actualization.
good luck.

ok SMART ASS...
I agree with your "you can buy health" theory. What you mentioned actually crossed my mind as I was typing my original comment. HOWEVER, if your health status is "bad enough"... in other words... I'll try to make this as polite as possible... IF YOUR ROYALLY FUCKED!!! (condition w/o a cure or what not) ... no genius doctor, medication, or massive bank account can help your ass.
The reason I didn't elaborate on that when I originally left my comment was cuz I was extremely tired.
Respect, blah blah... ye ur right, and I'm sure there are several others.
Back to my ORIGINAL POINT ... your still an idiot for ... "If your goal in life is to be successful, you won’t be!"
Just admit you were wrong. lol.
no no.. the first anonymous message was not me stupid, thats some other random person. And regarding your royally fucked theory... if you do not have a cure for your illness, your still not healthy, whether you have the money or not... so you can't possibly be healthy before "success".... you cannot achieve health without the proper care is what I am saying. You have a higher chance of getting better if you can afford it, and if they do not have a cure for your illness... then you can help with funding the researchers so that they can find a cure. and if they dont find it in time to help you, at least you did your part to help people in the future.
You can try to avoid getting ill... but it is something you cannot forsee. Money or none, cautious or careless, it is something you cannot absolutely prevent.
ehh Im done.

I completly agree with you. That was my point as well. I apologize for snapping at you.
Anon 1 - your still an idiot.
lol.
ok. im done too.
Interesting discussion.
Sure happiness means different things to everyone. Love the quote above that before you have what money can buy, have what it cannot buy first. It's never about whether money can buy happiness or not.
I'm sorry, but in the modern world, your wealth does limit the activities you can do, the quality of products you consume, and even the social circle you are allowed in. All these things in turn grants happiness, not 100% geniune. But it's not as if you are poor, friends become anymore truer or life becomes simpler.
You need material success, in moderation.
